TEXTILES

Our textiles project aims to empower women by teaching them tailoring skills and giving them the opportunity to earn money whilst the sale of the products helps to raise awareness and support for our wider work in Malawi.

What do we make?

Since 2006 we have been making products from bold and colourful African prints, known locally as Chitenje. Every piece is hand cut and sewn on a treadle sewing machine.

Originally starting with a simple tote bag design, new products have been introduced including reversible bags, drawstring bags, yoga bags, aprons and scrunchies.

Completed products are shipped to the UK and sold by a fantastic team of volunteers at local markets.

Meet the team

We currently work with a team of six women; Ruth, Modesta, Patricia, Juliana, Deborah and Charity.

Alongside Mbedza products our textile workers also make reusable sanitary kits for our female students.

Join us in our mission to empower women and create sustainable employment opportunities in rural Malawi.

This project would not be possible without our team of fantastic volunteers in the UK who sell our products at local markets.

We're always looking for more volunteers to join our team, so if you're interested in becoming an Mbedza seller, please get in touch.

We'll provide you with everything you need to get started.
